Reading the blog in black text on white

I didn't paint on the seascape today. I wanted to get away from it for a day and clear my head. So I painted outside. I received an email from a helpful reader ( thanks a lot, that's a big help!) that will be useful to those of you who have complained about reading the text on a black background. I like the aesthetic and the art looks good on black. I like the black., It looks cool. It also gives my blog a distinctive look.

First of all I would like to thank you for your blog, I cannot emphasize enough how much it has helped me. Thank you. Second, I've seen some people complain about the color scheme of your website, and I've seen you suggest using google reader. However, there is an easier way, at least in firefox browser. You can go to options -> content -> colors, and choose your own colors. I think that should help people who complain their eyes hurt. I've attached pictures of how to do it.
Thank you again.

Michal

  1. Looking cool has been an art thing
since man made the first mark. The more things change, the more they stay the same.

  2. Glad to help. I was going to email this way earlier, but somehow I forgot, and since the color scheme doesn't bother me, I didn't remember until I visited your facebook today.

  4. My blog is white text on black.
Does that mean I am cool too?

I never really worried about the text hurting peoples eyes. I mean, don't most people have servants to read this stuff out loud to them?

  5. It must be that some people's eyes are just more sensitive. I would rather read the white on black than black on a big bright white page. Stay cool. :)

  6. Honestly, I have been told that a blog or web page should always be black text on a white background-- maybe for blogs that write super long posts and the reader can get eye fatigue. Yet, I feel that for art and photography blogs, the black background makes the art pop and yes, it looks cool..

  7. Hi Stape,
Read this great quote from Edgar Degas last night,"A painting is a thing which requires as much cunning, rascality and viciousness as the perpetration of a crime."LOL!!
This is the best series yet as it demystifies the process, creating a painting is a messy enterprise, we tend to think at some point we will look 'marvelous'!
Thank you for caring enough for us, to expose this, it is a gift truely appreciated. Terry

  8. I'm not thrilled with white-on-black but it suddenly looks like a sunny day when compared with blue-on-black. The most illegible print combo I ever saw was silver on white. Second worst was orange on white.

It is preferable for the art to look cool, surely?

That was a big help, I hope people quit bugging me about that now. Somehow I doubt it.

I think some people have an impatience with its small difficulty. Either way there is a work around.

Sometimes it goes real easy, but the seascape is often very difficult for me.

I don't know what Eurovision is. Is that something on television? I don't have a TV.

  19. Ugh. I dig the blog and it's content. If users want a different experience, they can also subscribe via RSS feed and read it Google Reader, Newsgator or their mail clients. Don't change a thing!
