Waiting in the rain some more.

More rain today, again we painted figures. I was painting much better today, I actually was starting to hit it today. Here we are working away with the wind howling outside and the rain coming down. However the sky is clear tonight and tomorrow I will get to paint outside.

Here is Ignat Ignatov "slaying em". We have now had four different models all of whom were very beautiful I am glad to have had three days of figure work. I wish I did that more often. Maybe I can figure out a way to do more.

Here are Jeremy, Ignat and Rick Casali making hand signs. They do that in Los Angeles. I don't know what they mean.

In the evenings we have a fire to sit around. The guys are playing guitars and singing. Here is Rick Casali looking after that. Tomorrow I am back to "doing the trip", outdoors. I hope to post some of that tomorrow and hopefully some of the other guys painting too.

Hand signals by a bunch of pasty white boys don't mean a thing, but you can humor them by telling them how "wicked cool" it looks...: )

Stape, you've just got to give them some Moxie. Tell 'em about candlepin bowling too. Nobody out here ever believes me when I tell them about bowling balls the size of grapefruits with no holes in 'em.

Good for you Stapleton, you do have those skills from the atelier days. I go to a portrait model night once a week trying to get my old portrait skills in running order. I bet you did a pretty darn good piece too yesterday too.

Today's your day. We'll be thinking of you.

Any chance we get to see a Stapelton Kearns figure painting? I am dying to see....

Stape, glad you got a chance to paint figures. Hope today holds a chance to paint outdoors.

So, did you notice the size of the brush Jeremy uses? I was surprised by that. Just goes to show that each artist has their own approach and it can all result in great art!

Of course, your approach is the best ;-)

Kidding aside, I learned a ton from your workshop and am so glad I attended. As soon as I get my brain back, I'll rewrite my notes and email them to you. It's all coming back to me now...

Stape! These posts are sending out
waves to the art world. Cool waves.
(we had hand signs too, back in the 60's)
I noticed some wearing gloves, doesn't that get in the way of brush strokes?

I second Briana above. Please, please, please post one of your figure paintings. I would love so much to see one.

where is this place? I want to be there.

Ignat's figure skills are getting better and better. I agree with you, he "kills it"

Can't wait to see tomorrow's post.. and hopefully a painting from outside!! In my little bit of experience, it seems that figure painting, more than any other subject matter, requires
daily, or at least very regular practice to be able to nail it with any degree of authenticity.... here, in the boonies where I live, it is about a 60 mile round trip over mountain roads to get to the one figure drawing class available, so I simply don't get that practice... and hence I'm not very good at it.

The guy on the left is, obviously flashing the LA sign, but the three finger??? could be bad, dunno.

I do a figure group every Monday and a Portrait group every Thursday...without fail.If I miss a session it takes 3 sessions to get back in the groove. It would not be fair to have high expectations from a guy who has been out of it as long as Stape. All those guys know this and are very happy, I'm sure, to have a model to keep their edge going.

Candy;
I expressed bewilderment actually.

These guys would have no interest in candlepin bowling.

You seem to have the discerning eye. I think the other sign means "tripod"

Stape, you mentioned Ingbretson's Atelier to Kevin up in Maine. He has a facebook page and has put out a video on drawing.

There are a couple of videos to watch on the FB page that are interesting. Here's the link:
